Volunteers will ride the buses from Autzen to the stops across main campus. Along the way, they will point out campus landmarks and share a little about the places graduates have spent the past four years. They will also announce each stop and highlight nearby ceremony venues and food options.

Gra(n)d Entrance team volunteers will receive their assigned location from their lead before beginning their shift.

They guide graduates through the staging area, help them line up for the Gra(n)d Entrance, and keep lines orderly as they move through the tunnel and onto the field.

Once graduates enter the stadium, volunteers move to the sidelines to monitor student behavior. If needed, they may confiscate alcohol or call an alcohol monitor for support.

Before the end of the ceremony, volunteers should head to the east tunnel to help guide students out and assist with roping off the east ramp.

Bag check attendants receive and tag guests’ bags, provide guests with a matching claim stub, and place the bags in the appropriate alphabetical storage box.

When guests return, attendants collect the stub, locate the corresponding bag by matching the tag number, and return it promptly and accurately.

Once the celebration begins, concourse workers should continue to roam the concourse to be available to guide guests, direct them to restrooms, concessions, and exits, and point them to shuttles located outside the South Gate.

Concourse volunteers will also hand out programs to those who did not receive one at the gate.

Moshofsky Gate monitors greet graduates as they enter, ensuring they are wearing proper regalia and complying with all entry rules. They must not allow entry to anyone without regalia or carrying prohibited items such as water bottles, alcohol, or non-clear bags. Throughout the process, they help maintain an orderly flow and uphold event policies.

This is for the Autzen Shuttle stop only. A shuttle stop attendant greets guests, answers questions about which stop to use, and helps load and unload buses safely and efficiently.

They manage the shuttle line, remind guests of important policies (such as clear-bag requirements at all venues), ensure buses fill from front to back, and check for empty seats before departure.

They also assist guests with mobility needs and help keep shuttles moving smoothly throughout the day.

Golf Cart Driver Requirements

Driver Certification
You must have a current UO driver certification on file to operate a golf cart. Complete or verify your certification at: https://safety.uoregon.edu/driver-certification

Training
If you have not driven a golf cart on campus before, email melf@uoregon.edu as soon as possible to schedule a brief hands-on training.

A map showing approved golf cart routes will be provided to you before your shift.

Golf Cart Operations

• Ten golf carts will be available to assist guests with mobility needs during Commencement.
• Drivers will be assigned to areas near the four shuttle stops to ensure coverage across campus.
• Golf carts should travel on streets but may use sidewalks or paths when necessary near destination points.
• Monitor radio traffic for guest pick-up requests from shuttle stops.
• Return your golf cart keys and radio to Volunteer Headquarters at the end of your shift unless instructed otherwise.

Clear Bag Problem Solvers assist guests with unique or complex situations that fall outside standard entry guidelines.

They support gate guides by answering questions they may not know or do not have the authority to address, and help determine appropriate solutions for situations that are outside the stated rules for entrance.

If needed, they can use a radio to contact management and obtain approval for specific circumstances.

After guest entry is complete, they can assist with setting up the East Gate for student departure.

GradFest volunteers greet and assist families and guests by answering general questions about commencement, including ceremony times, locations, and shuttle service. They provide friendly, proactive support throughout the event and help create a welcoming, celebratory environment by engaging with guests and assisting with photos.

Early shift volunteers will help set up GradFest, including putting up banners, assisting with event decoration, and setting up phone-charging stations. Late shift volunteers will support event breakdown and help take everything down at the end of the day.

All volunteers may be asked to radio for golf cart assistance when needed to support guests with mobility needs and keep things running smoothly.

Volunteers will receive a reference sheet and schedule details at check-in to help them confidently guide guests.

Section seaters will be assigned to a specific section to guide guests to their seats.

They will:

Alcohol Monitor volunteers ensure that only graduates in proper regalia enter the Gra(n)d Entrance staging area.

They are assigned to specific locations along the route, including the Moshofsky Gate, Casanova Center courtyard, and Mariota Performance Center.

Throughout the entire process, they monitor student behavior and are responsible for confiscating any alcohol or controlled substances they observe.

Hayward Field volunteers welcome graduates and guests, check in with team lead upon arrival, and remain flexible as they may be reassigned to different roles throughout the venue based on ceremony needs. Volunteers help support smooth guest flow, assist staff from various schools and colleges, and follow any specific instructions given for their assigned location.
